Nikki’s story.

My friend Liz is the one who originally invited me to come to the Dream Streets Moms Group last year. At first I wasn’t completely sure I wanted to go but I’d heard her talk about Dream Streets and everything that they’d done for her, so I decided to give it a chance. I finally went one Sunday and immediately loved the group. Everyone there, from the staff and volunteers to the other moms in the group, are so relaxed and supportive. There’s no judgment based on where you come from in life, and everyone truly wants to see each other succeed.

Everyone’s successes are celebrated and when someone has a problem or needs help, solutions are discussed and figured out together. I really feel like I can be myself when I’m there and not have to worry about anyone judging me. In our weekly group, we talk about everything you can think of from budgeting to self-care, and even nutrition and exercise. Most of all, it's nice to take a break and just be with other moms who are walking through the same phase of life as me. This is so needed because, as moms, we’re expected to take care of everyone else but rarely do things for ourselves. Having Dream Streets Moms each week is a time of community and fun that I look forward to every single time. It’s truly a joy to be part of something so amazing.

Recently, Dream Streets helped me secure a mortgage on a new home. It meant so much to me to have them there as I walked through that process and was able to make my dream a reality. I even recently ran/walked a 5K for the first time in the annual Dream Streets 5K event! I love being able to try new things with moms who are also doing the same. I love the community and the opportunities to give back to others that Dream Streets gives me.  It’s so reenergizing to be able to come to an open and supportive place that feels so much like home.
